Raymond James just upgraded AMD to Strong Buy, citing a clear path to challenging Intel’s CPU dominance. The analyst sees a 25% share in the server market, climbing from 5% just four years ago. But when the graph spikes, the soul remains quiet. The real question is not if AMD will win, but what that victory means for the underlying infrastructure of our digital world. Is this a simple business cycle, or a revolution in how we build foundational computing layers?

To understand this, we must look at the substrate. AMD’s current advantage is not an invention of its own, but a leveraged bet on the most centralized manufacturing force on the planet: TSMC. AMD’s Zen 4 and Zen 5 chips are built on TSMC’s 5nm and 3nm nodes, respectively. Intel, meanwhile, is struggling to bring its own Intel 18A (roughly 1.8nm equivalent) process to market by 2025.
