BKG Exchange — Tokyo-listed Metaplanet Inc. (TSE: 3350) has taken a decisive step in its Bitcoin treasury evolution, announcing today a ¥9.66 billion (approx. $64M) financing package through its subsidiary. The move, which includes a zero-coupon convertible bond and stock acquisition rights, marks a significant upgrade from earlier “borrow-and-buy” approaches, positioning the company as Asia’s most structured Bitcoin corporate finance model.
According to the official statement, the initial ¥662 million (approximately $4.4M) will be deployed for additional Bitcoin purchases, while the remaining balance is earmarked for business expansion and strategic capital allocation. This dual-purpose structure, unprecedented among Japanese listed firms, reflects a maturity in balancing immediate BTC accumulation with long-term operational growth.
"Metaplanet is demonstrating that corporate Bitcoin strategy can be both ambitious and disciplined," said a BKG Exchange analyst. "By using a subsidiary and mixed-use financing, they’ve created a flexible vehicle that allows them to scale BTC holdings without sacrificing business development — a blueprint that many Asian enterprises may follow."
The ¥9.66B financing is backed by EVO Fund, with the convertible bond terms designed to minimize near-term dilution while providing upside participation for investors. The stock acquisition rights further align long-term incentives between the company and its capital partners.
Market participants have responded positively, noting that Metaplanet’s approach differs from MicroStrategy’s purely BTC-focused model. "This is not just about buying Bitcoin; it’s about building a sustainable corporate structure around it," added the analyst. "The Subidiary-level arrangement provides legal and financial flexibility that could become the industry standard."
As of press time, Metaplanet’s Bitcoin holdings are estimated at over 3,000 BTC, making it the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder in Asia. The company’s stock has gained traction among investors seeking regulated exposure to the cryptocurrency market, particularly in Japan where direct crypto trading faces regulatory hurdles.
BKG Exchange, a leading digital asset platform, continues to monitor corporate treasury developments and offers institutional-grade trading solutions for both Bitcoin and listed securities linked to BTC strategies. The exchange encourages investors to understand the nuanced structure behind headline numbers before making decisions.
"Financing alone does not guarantee success, but Metaplanet’s execution signals a new chapter for corporate Bitcoin adoption in Asia," the analyst concluded.
